Suspected drunk driving cause of two Texas accidents

Those who operate motor vehicles are expected to do so in as safe a manner as possible when sharing the roadways with other motorists and pedestrians. In Texas, accidents occur often, and some are determined to have been avoidable had it not been for a driver’s negligence. Those who are injured under such circumstances often require medical care and/or physical therapy in recovery. Aside from the strength and perseverance it takes to endure such suffering, it can be extremely frustrating to know that a drunk driving accident, which resulted in one’s injuries, need not have occurred in the first place.

At approximately 2 a.m. on a recent Wednesday morning, a pickup truck allegedly smashed into a sports utility vehicle. Instead of remaining at the scene, as required by law, the driver of the pickup reportedly fled the area. The 24-year-old man behind the wheel  is then said to have run a stop light, crashing into yet another vehicle that contained several occupants.

Three people from the second accident were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of their injuries. Among them, a 25-year-old woman was listed in critical condition. The condition of a 15-year-old girl was said to have stabilized.

No information was provided regarding the vehicle from the first crash. The man deemed responsible for both accidents was reported to have suffered minor injuries but apparently refused treatment. In the aftermath of the crashes, he was charged with two counts of intoxication assault.

Texas law allows a person seriously injured in a drunk driving accident through another person’s negligence to file a legal claim in a civil court. Damages for which compensation can be sought typically include medical bills, emotional pain and suffering and loss of wages. It is normally advisable, when considering filing such a claim, to first consult with an experienced personal injury lawyer so as to discuss the details of the situation and acquire professional assistance before proceeding to court.
