Interstate 35 E became the scene of tragedy on a recent Sunday morning in Texas. Reports indicate that the multiple vehicle collision was a suspected drunk driving accident. One fatality and several injuries were suffered in the incident.
A police officer said that the tragic crash occurred at approximately 4:30 a.m. near a local shopping mall. An apparent single car collision had occurred when the travelers from two other vehicles reportedly stopped at the scene to render aid. Another vehicle was then said to approach and apparently struck a pedestrian and the two vehicles.
Sadly, the 18-year-old pedestrian who was apparently hit by the motorist was pronounced dead after being rushed to a nearby medical center. A 32-year-old man who was driving the car that hit the young man was also transported to a nearby hospital. He was then transferred to jail for arraignment on a charge of intoxication assault.
Authorities closed the northbound lanes of the highway to traffic while an investigation was conducted in the aftermath of the tragedy. In Texas, an immediate family member who suffers the untimely death of a loved one in a drunk driving accident can file a legal claim against the party deemed at fault. Though a lawsuit could never alleviate the grief and emotional pain a family experiences in such a tragic loss, compensation awarded in a successfully litigated case could help cover the cost of a funeral and help with any other expenses and monetary damages a family incurs in connection to such an accident.
