Suspected drunk driving accidents result in injuries and death

On Behalf of | Jun 23, 2015 | Drunk Driving Accidents |

Reports indicate that the same driver was responsible for two separate collisions on a recent Tuesday in Texas. The collisions are thought to be drunk driving accidents. Unfortunately, multiple injuries and a fatality resulted from the second accident.

According to a spokesman for the Texas Department of Safety, a 61-year-old man was exiting a liquor store parking lot when his vehicle allegedly hit another car. The man was reportedly driving a quarter-ton pickup at the time. Moments after the first collision, he is said to have attempted a left-hand turn, during which time he struck the passenger side of another vehicle.

There were five occupants in the second vehicle that was struck. A female passenger was rushed to a nearby hospital. Sadly, she succumbed to her injuries later that evening. The woman’s son, age 14, also suffered injuries in the crash. Reports indicate that alcohol is a suspected factor in this case.

When injuries result from drunk driving accidents in Texas, those who are injured have the right to file legal claims against the at-fault drivers. In a case in which a fatality has occurred, the immediate surviving family members of a victim are able to file a lawsuit on behalf of their loved one. Damages suffered due to the untimely death of a family member may be listed in a request for the court to award compensation to a victim’s family. Emotional pain and suffering, the loss of potential financial support and funeral expenses are among the damages sometimes included in a claim. Surviving injured victims may seek compensation to help pay for medical bills and other expenses incurred during an accident or throughout the recovery process.
