Parents sue after drunk driving crash results in death

On Behalf of | Jun 18, 2015 | Drunk Driving Accidents |

In April 2015, a tragedy occurred on a Texas roadway that left one family grieving the loss of two children. The alleged drunk driving accident happened less than one mile away from the bar where the suspect had allegedly been drinking a short while before the crash. A lawsuit has been filed against the bar owners by the parents of the deceased.

The accident occurred when a man’s vehicle hit the family’s vehicle from behind. Two siblings were killed and two more were injured in the crash. A 15-year-old boy and his 10-year-old sister died at the scene of the collision. The parents have asserted in their legal claim that the bar owners should be held liable for knowingly continuing to serve the man alcohol and allowing him to leave the premises while intoxicated.

The man has since been charged with murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. It has been reported that he has two previous arrests for driving while intoxicated, though it remains unclear if convictions were secured. The owners of the bar have stated that they do not believe they are legally culpable for the tragedy that occurred.

According to additional reports, a separate lawsuit has also been filed by the same family against the manufacturers of the automobile the mother was using at the time of the drunk driving accident. They claim that the installed protection systems in the vehicle were inadequate. Because the process of litigation in such circumstances can be quite complicated, it is advisable that those considering filing a personal injury or wrongful death claim in Texas first seek the advice and guidance of an experienced personal injury attorney in the area.
