The state of Texas is faced with legal woes after one of its vehicles was involved in an accident. A Texas woman claims that she suffered injuries after she was rear-ended by a state-owned prison bus in a car accident. She filed a lawsuit seeking damages in excess of $100,000.

The accident reportedly happened when the woman was traveling along a state highway. The driver of a bus, owned by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, slammed into the back of the woman’s vehicle. Since the crash, the woman has suffered from physical injuries and has been faced with mental anguish. According to the lawsuit, the driver of the bus failed to keep an appropriate lookout.

In addition, the woman claims that the driver of the bus was negligent by failing to yield to the right-of-way and did not keep proper control of the vehicle. Moreover, the driver was allegedly not operating at an appropriate speed and did not apply the brakes. The woman is requesting a judgment for over $100,000 and interest.

Drivers have a responsibility every time they get behind the wheel, particularly those who operate state-owned vehicles. In this case, the woman reportedly suffered serious injuries that may have cost her loss of enjoyment in life. The woman may receive the award she’s seeking if evidence deems that the driver of the prison bus operated in a negligent manner. Individuals who have been injured in a car accident may wish to pursue personal injury claims in a Texas civil courtroom for the recovery of damages as found appropriate.
