A Texas family who was set to take a cruise departing from Galveston became victims of a horrific car accident. On a recent Saturday morning, a car drifted into oncoming traffic and crashed into a taxi minivan, killing four people. Two victims from the car accident were later listed as being in critical condition, and one woman was less seriously injured.
In the early morning before the cruise was set to depart, the family called a taxi for a ride to their hotel because they had some drinks earlier. On the way to the hotel, a Mazda Miata crashed into their taxi. The driver of the Mazda reportedly turned a curve too fast, lost control of the car and slammed into the taxi. The two people in the Mazda died at the scene, along with two people in the back seat of the taxi minivan. The driver and the front passenger of the taxi minivan were airlifted to a hospital and are in critical condition.
Authorities are uncertain if alcohol is a factor in the deadly car cash. They did seem more certain that excessive speed on the part of the Mazda’s driver played a major role in the tragedy. Witnesses say the impact sounded like an explosion going off, and emergency workers claimed it was a particularly catastrophic crash scene.
Car accidents as a result of speeding are dangerous and can result in death. These unfortunate events leave devastating, long-lasting impacts on families. It is tragic that a family, who was supposed to embark on a fun family vacation, now has to suffer from such a devastating loss. Although the pain of losing loved ones in a car accident will never go away, surviving families may be able to receive financial compensation for damages through a successfully litigated personal injury lawsuit. Texas courts will often award damages to cover medical and funeral expenses, and sometimes even pain and suffering compensation, after a successful claim.
