Texas fatal car accidents: Another pedestrian killed

A 55-year-old man has died of injuries suffered in a hit-and-run collision. Deadly car accidents continue to plague Texas roadways, and this one marks the second pedestrian death in a little more than six months in El Paso County. The identity of the deceased man was released by local authorities on Wednesday, four days after the weekend accident.

The deceased man, who worked as a driver for Swift Trucking Company, was discovered lying in the road on Horizon Boulevard in El Paso a little before midnight on the first Saturday of July. He was taken to a local medical center with major injuries. According to deputies, he died later at the hospital.

It was revealed in the deputies’ subsequent investigation that a Chevy Cavalier was seen traveling on the outer lane when the man was hit. As a result of the continuing investigation, deputies were able to arrest a 65-year-old man who was allegedly driving the Chevy when the accident occurred. The arrest took place on the same block on Horizon Boulevard on which the pedestrian was stuck.

The arrested man was taken to the El Paso County Jail. His bail was set at $50,000. It is not known if speeding or intoxication were factors in the deadly hit-and-run accident.

When families lose a loved one through fatal car accidents, they have recourse to file against the responsible driver for civil remedies in the form of a wrongful death suit. No amount of money, of course, can make up for the loss of the man who was killed in the Texas hit-and-run car accident. Damages can, however, be awarded through a successfully litigated wrongful death suit to compensate for loss of support, expenses, and the emotional pain suffered through the tragic circumstances of a preventable death.
