Pedestrian struck and killed in Texas car accident

by | May 10, 2013 | Wrongful Death |

A fatal pedestrian accident that occurred recently in Palestine, Texas, which is in between Houston and Dallas, has left police investigating who was at fault. According to police, the man was walking down a street when he was struck and killed by a pickup truck.

Police say that the fatal accident occurred when the man was walking north along the road. A truck that was also traveling north in the outermost lane of the road hit the man. The man was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

The truck driver has reportedly cooperate with police in the ongoing investigation. The victim was also walking with another person at the time of the accident, and police have questioned that person in an attempt to aid their investigation. An exact cause seems to be unknown right now.

Police would only describe the victim as a “young man.” His age is not known. Law enforcement has not said yet whether alcohol, drugs or reckless driving played a role in the accident.

There could be many causes to this accident. But pedestrians are advised to not walk in roads. It’s better to stick to the sidewalks, especially at night, because drivers will have a harder time seeing people walking in the road.

When a pedestrian is struck by a moving vehicle, there is a good chance that person will sustain serious injuries if not die. That’s why it’s important for everyone to be aware of the rules of the road. If police determine that the pedestrian’s death could have been avoided because of the truck driver’s actions, then that could be used in a potential wrongful death lawsuit.
