Where to find news of drug recalls

by | Oct 24, 2018 | Defective Drugs |

If you have heard a lot about the topic of drug recalls lately and you take medication prescribed by your Texas doctor, you might wonder how you could find out if your medicine has been recalled. If you are at all concerned about consuming recalled medicine, there are a number of ways you can keep on top of drug recall news and help yourself enjoy a greater piece of mind.

First, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration issues a FDA enforcement report each week that lists recalled drugs. The FDA will classify recalled drugs according to a category of severity, with Class I posing the most danger, Class II posing a more moderate risk, and Class III offering the least risk. However, the FDA will not always have a classification ready for a drug, but the agency will still list the drug as part of an ongoing recall.

Another way to check to see if your drug has been recalled is to enter your drug in an online search engine along with the word “recall” or a similar term. Since recalls may be announced on the news, it is likely that the news story concerning the recall can be found on the internet. You could find the story on one of the major cable news sites or even on a website for a television station.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission advises companies that put out recalls to make use of social media, so your social media accounts can also serve as a pipeline for recall news. A drug company could list a recall on their Facebook page, through an Instagram post, or through Twitter, among many other options. Since social media reaches millions of people and is free to use, companies can easily post a recall notice that many media users will receive.
