Have you checked your Christmas list for these dangerous toys?

With Black Friday coming up and a limited number of days to shop for Christmas presents, you may have collected your children’s wish lists and highlighted the toys you want to buy at the nearest Texas store or shopping mall. However, not all popular toys are safe. According to USA Today, here are some hazards that some of this years’ toys may include.

Any toy that contains small parts that come off can be a choking hazard for a young child. In fact, most of these come with warnings on the box explicitly stating that the toys are not suitable for children under 3 years old. However, dolls are often marketed to toddlers, and they may have removable clothing and accessories that are choking hazards. Consumer watchdog agencies warn that you should check for these items before making the purchase.

While you may not consider buying your child a weapon for Christmas, there are many replicas available that can provide hours of fun. Most of these come with warning labels that are worth reading. For example, they may indicate that the toy could cause eye injuries or facial damage. If your child is too young to understand the importance of avoiding attacks to the head, these toys may not be appropriate.

A toy with wheels could lead to a fall, but one rollerskate-like device that attaches to shoes also creates sparks. According to the warning label, these could lead to burns.

Some toys do not have to meet the same safety regulations as others because of the way that they are classified. If you have to go to the sporting goods section to purchase a toy, this could be the case. You may find more peace of mind by checking consumer product safety websites and government recalls before you shop.
