Tragedy in Texas — several lives lost, others suffer injuries

On Behalf of | May 13, 2015 | Burn Injuries |

A tragic accident in the Texas Lower Valley has left families grieving the loss of their loved ones. Two survivors suffered injuries, one of whom was airlifted to Lubbock for emergency treatment of severe burns. The accident occurred on a recent Monday night and involved one vehicle that was carrying four occupants.

According to police reports, the vehicle was headed southbound when a tragic turn of events took place. The driver apparently lost control of the vehicle. The car reportedly slammed into a guardrail, then became airborne over a drainage canal. The vehicle went into a roll and burst into flames.

The driver of the vehicle was said to have escaped the fire with non life-threatening injuries and was treated at a hospital in the area. One of the passengers was also able to exit the vehicle but suffered serious burns all over his body. Sadly, an 18-year-old passenger and another passenger who was 17 years of age, both males, became trapped in the fire and did not survive.

Those who suffer burn injuries in a traffic accident must often endure long-term care, treatment and physical therapy in the aftermath of the collision. In Texas, some who survive an accident that was caused by the negligence or recklessness of another driver decide to file a personal injury claim in a civil court. Any compensation awarded in a successfully litigated claim can be used to help offset ongoing medical costs. The law also allows immediate family members of deceased victims to file a wrongful death claim on behalf of their loved ones.
