A motorcyclist remains in a Texas hospital in the aftermath of a recent collision. The incident is suspected to be a drunk driving accident that occurred near a local intersection in Wichita Falls. Tragically, the victim required amputation of a limb in order to survive his injuries.

The accident occurred when a man was riding his motorcycle.  Reports indicate that a small pickup truck operated by an 18-year-old struck the motorcyclist. The man on the motorcycle was airlifted to a Dallas hospital and was in need of emergency surgery on his leg. The pickup driver was suspected of driving while intoxicated.

In addition to his leg amputation, the victim also had to undergo surgery on his back. His cousin, who spoke to reporters, said that she hopes the suspected drunk driver has learned a lesson from the accident and that all teenagers should be taught the dangers of drinking and driving. She further stated that she feels sorry for the suspect because he is now in jail and that his life will be forever-changed after hitting her cousin.

When a drunk driving accident leads to injury or death, an injured victim may seek compensation for damages sustained due to the wrongful actions of another driver. In the case of a fatality, the immediate family members who survive the deceased may file a wrongful death claim on his or her behalf. Emotional pain and suffering, loss of wages, medical bills and funeral expenses are typically listed as some of the damages potentially recoverable in the aftermath of a drunk driving collision.
