Woman killed in apparent wrongful death accident in Texas

On Behalf of | Apr 14, 2015 | Wrongful Death |

A recent tragedy occurred in Texas that left one person dead and another facing criminal charges. The apparent wrongful death accident took place near midnight on a recent Thursday. Galveston police responded to the call in the 4100 block of Seawall Boulevard.

First responders said that upon arriving at the scene, they found two crashed vehicles on the beach near the seawall. According to preliminary investigations, a 34-year-old male was thought to be driving in a westbound direction in the eastbound lane. A 54-year-old female was reportedly seated in the driver’s position of a legally parked vehicle near the seawall when the wrong-way vehicle veered into the parking lane, resulting in a head-on collision.

Officers responding to the call said that they immediately noticed that both drivers were still inside the wrecked vehicles. Rescue workers took steps to extricate both vehicles’ occupants. The man was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of injuries and was later released. Sadly, the woman was pronounced dead at the site. A manslaughter charge has been filed against the man who seems to have caused the accident.

An accident reconstruction team is being assisted by area detectives in an ongoing investigation of the tragedy. The results of a breath test given to the accused has not yet been publicized in the case. When a family suffers the untimely death of a loved one in an accident that has been caused by the reckless or negligent actions of another driver, a wrongful death claim may be filed in a civil court on behalf of the decedent. Successful litigation would typically result in monetary compensation awarded as retribution for damages suffered through the loss of the family member.
