When one irresponsibly chooses to drive drunk, one creates the possibility that one will get hurt or that one will hurt someone else, including anyone who chooses to ride with one. While any car accident can be potentially fatal, this is more possible when one is drunk driving because alcohol impairs one’s ability to properly operate machinery. Each fatal drunk driving accident is tragic, but it is even more tragic when several people die because of a young Texas driver’s irresponsible decision to drive under the influence.
Six Texas performers were leaving a cast party for the summer musical drama they each performed in called “Texas.” The 20-year-old driver was driving on U.S. 287 when he allegedly pulled in front of an 18-wheeler. The resulting crash killed the driver along with four of his cast members.
Only one performer survived the crash, and he is said to be in stable condition. The driver of the 18-wheeler was also injured. According to the toxicology report, the young driver had a blood alcohol level of .165 at the time of the crash, which is more than twice the legal limit. There were also trace amounts of marijuana in his system.
Investigations are still being made into the tragic drunk driving accident. If the young Texas drunk driver is found to be at fault for the crash, even though criminal charges cannot be filed, the families of the other cast members may be able to pursue civil litigation against the driver. These families may be able to file personal injury and wrongful death claims against the driver, which would compensate the families for their pain and suffering at the loss of their loved ones.
