Toddler, 3 others killed in Texas Panhandle wrongful death

On Behalf of | Aug 5, 2014 | Wrongful Death |

In a recent tragedy in the Texas Panhandle, four lives were lost in a car accident. Unfortunately, the actions of negligent drivers can cause wrongful death crashes, and this case does not appear to be an exception. One of the victims was only 2 years old and the deadly event occurred on a recent Tuesday night.

Reportedly, two drivers were traveling on a highway when they inexplicably collided head-on. The vehicles reportedly erupted in flames. One of the drivers was able to escape from one of the vehicles before it was engulfed in flames. Medics transported the driver who escaped the wreck to the hospital for treatment. Tragically, a 19-year-old passenger in that vehicle died at the crash scene.

The other vehicle was occupied by a husband and wife and their daughter, the young toddler. All of them perished in the accident. The cause of the accident is not known, and no other details were reported.

Fatal accidents can spark catastrophe for victims and their family members. The surviving family members are usually left wondering if there is any legal recourse available to them as they grieve their loss. Depending on the outcome of this investigation, either of the drivers could bear responsibility for the crash. If the driver who escaped is deemed responsible, then the family of the deceased victims in the other vehicle may have the legal right to pursue a wrongful death claim. The surviving family of the deceased teenaged passenger retain the right to litigate a wrongful death claim against the party or parties believed responsible for his or her death.
